SEX- A BOON OR CURSE IN YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY?

There is a belief that sex can actually impact your fitness goals. Many athletes avoid sex prior their competing times, as it could affect their overall performance. Even non-athletes an average gym goer is willing to sacrifice their sex lives as they feel it’s going to be a hurdle in their progress.

Adapting a healthy lifestyle, will work wonders for your sex life. It helps you increase your flexibility, stamina and strength, but it can affect it as well. There are factors like psychological or hormonal which creates a negative impact on your fitness journey.
Let’s discuss how sex plays an important role in your fitness journey and what impact it creates:

1.    Testosterone booster: The biggest positive of a healthy sex life is it increases your testosterone level. Testosterone is one of the primary elements of muscle growth and overall development of your body. Having higher level of testosterone in the body will help to induce greater muscle gains. When testosterone levels are elevated in the body, it has a positive impact on libido levels. A person with high libido is able to engage in healthy sex. This means frequent sexual activity means a higher sex drive, which can help you to perform better between sheets.
On the flip side, if you have a low testosterone and you are engaging in excess sexual activity it’s going to have a negative impact on your body. Doesn’t matter what your goals are-to lose weight or to gain, low testosterone is damaging to your overall development. You need a healthy and balanced lifestyle to improve your testosterone level. It doesn’t matter how many testosterone booster supplements you take if you have an inconsistent lifestyle, nothing’s going to work.

2.    Zinc the secret ingredient: Zinc is an underappreciated mineral.  It is one of the major micronutrients necessary for the growth and maintenance of the muscle tissue. It is an essential mineral needed by your body to naturally produce testosterone. The status of zinc in the body plays an important part in sex and muscle building. The semen is composed of one percent sperm and the rest with vitamins and minerals like- calcium, magnesium, fructose, zinc and many more. This means, when you experience an orgasm, zinc is released in some form.
Low level of zinc is equal to lower sex drive, which makes it tough to put on muscle. It’s important to fill your diet with zinc rich foods and supplements. After each orgasm the body is going to lose a significant amount of zinc. It’s important to repair the lost zinc.

3.    It increases strength: Sex can actually improve your strength level. Now, that doesn’t mean you should have a pre-workout sex before every session. You may have notice after your sexual session, you feel relaxed and a bit tired. At this point, your body releases oxytocin and it serves you to relax.
You should be careful not to get involve in workout session immediate after sex. At this moment, your body refuses to perform to your ability and you won’t be able to push yourself to a state where you desire. It takes time for your body to recover and come back to normal. You don’t want to hit the gym if your energy level is zero. Give yourself a few hours before engaging into your training session. You will notice after few hours when you hit your training session, the level of strength is much better.

4.    It helps you to relax: Sex can actually be a great stress buster. One of the important aspects of any fitness goal is to be relived of all sort of stress. Stress is biggest hurdle between you and your fitness goal.
But, this can actually have a negative effect as well. Most, of us will have no issues maintaining a balance between their sex life and their training session. For most, it can become too preoccupied or an obsession, they may prioritize it ahead of their workouts. So, it’s important to stay focused and set your priorities right.

5.    It helps in burning calories: Sex is the best cardio workout. Trying different kind of sexual activities can not only help you to burn calories, it can help in boosting your sex life.
You may unlikely burn as much calorie after a good workout session in comparison to working between sheets, still you are burning calories. Sex has numerous health benefits. Getting intimate and involving yourself in sexual activities is definitely a good option, but it all depends on your lifestyle.

Sex is an important aspect for every living individual. A consistent workout routine, a good diet and adapting a healthy lifestyle would never be an obstacle between your fitness goals and your sex life. As long as you create a balance between both and fix your priorities you need not be worried. What we also need to understand is too much of anything is not good; it does create a negative impact. Stays focused and understand your needs.
